What is Shared Living?
Our shared living residential services provide enhanced family care to help individuals with intellectual disabilities and acquired brain injuries achieve stability, well-being, and fulfillment within their communities. The services are specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual we support.
We recruit community members who welcome individuals with disabilities into their homes and integrate them into their family lives—think of it as a kind of adult foster care program. Our family care providers range from individuals to couples and even families with children. All offer housing and residential services to individuals who may not otherwise have a home.
Each provider is a contracted professional who receives round-the-clock support from a dedicated team of program managers, nurses, and clinicians employed by Easterseals NH’s Community-Based Services.
Providers do more than just offer shelter; they assist their individuals with all aspects of daily living, including support with meal preparation, laundry, medication management, and coordinating care for doctor’s visits and appointments, among other tasks.
“It’s truly rewarding to see them happy, especially when we are out in the community engaging in activities that I know they wouldn’t have been able to before,” said Melissa of Madbury, NH, who has served as a home care provider for more than five years. “I also feel like it’s really rounded out my family, and I’ve seen a lot of growth from my own children as well.””
Easterseals NH works closely with potential providers to identify appropriate matches that achieve and ensure permanency. Each provider is compensated with a daily rate for their services and 30 days of respite leave per year.

We provide ongoing support and monitoring as well as respite resources to ensure safety, satisfaction and assist with placement longevity. We provide a stable and comfortable living environment while working toward building community connections to enhance the lives of the people we support.
Staffed Residential Services
We have over 20 residential homes that provide staffing 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. We provide person-centered assessment, coordination, and treatment services necessary to meet the needs of high risk and complex individuals. These services are provided so that these individuals may transition to a safer, more fulfilling life by becoming responsible, accountable, and productive citizens.
Family Services
Easterseals NH believes that whenever possible a person should live in the community with natural supports. Many families need some type of support to make this a reality. We work with families across the state to help them keep their loved ones at home. Services can include but are not limited to: financial support, education and training, staffing supports, respite, assistance with activities of daily living, transportation, nursing services and emergency support.
