Shared Living

What is Shared Living?

Our shared living residential services provide enhanced family care to help individuals with intellectual disabilities and acquired brain injuries achieve stability, well-being, and fulfillment within their communities. The services are specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual we support.

We recruit community members who welcome individuals with disabilities into their homes and integrate them into their family lives—think of it as a kind of adult foster care program. Our family care providers range from individuals to couples and even families with children. All offer housing and residential services to individuals who may not otherwise have a home.

Each home care provider is a contracted professional who receives round-the-clock support from a dedicated team of program managers, nurses, and clinicians employed by Easterseals NH’s Community-Based Services.

Home care providers do more than just offer shelter; they assist their individuals with all aspects of daily living, including support with meal preparation, laundry, medication management, and coordinating care for doctor’s visits and appointments, among other tasks.

“It’s truly rewarding to see them happy, especially when we are out in the community engaging in activities that I know they wouldn’t have been able to before,” said Melissa of Madbury, NH, who has served as a home care provider for more than five years. “I also feel like it’s really rounded out my family, and I’ve seen a lot of growth from my own children as well.””

Easterseals NH works closely with potential providers to identify appropriate matches that achieve and ensure permanency. Each home care provider is compensated with a daily rate for their services and 30 days of respite leave per year.
